2nd college magazine contents page research

On this contents page there are three images of people playing sports basket ball in particular. These images take up most of the page and are the first thing to catch your eye. By looking at these pictures the audience can tell automatically what the conmtents page and magazine is about. The images have roughly the same colours in so none of them stand out in particular, although the top right image is bigger than the other two images which catches the audiences eye more and the other two images are the same size which may suggest that the top right image is the main image of the page. The images are labeled with numbers which link in with a selline which has information on the images and contents of the magazine.
The colours in this contents page are maily white, black and blue. These colours go together well and makes the blue stand out more than the rest of the colours which draws the audiences eye the the headlines of sell lines. The masthead is very bold and black and by putting it on a white background makes it stand out in the page, but also the blue on the background stands out and automaticallly draws the audiences eye to the sell lines.
The size of the masthead is the biggest on the page and is bold and stands out the most in the page this may also suggest that it is the most important thing on the page. The black and blue headlines are the next biggest font on the page bvut is a lot harder to read which shows that they aren't as important as the masthead. The sell lines are the smallest font and aren't bold which doesn't fill the page which too much information.
The layout of the page is very simple but effective, as the images explain the page and take up a lot of the room and are in three of the corners of the page. The sell lines are on the top left corner of the page and the masthead is also on the top left of the page above the sell lines. This way it is easy and quick for the audience to see what the magazine is about, and doesn't involve too much reading as this contents page is short but straight to the point.

1st college magazine contents page research

On this contents page there are two images of students at college. One of the images is quite large and at the bottom centre of the page, which catches the audiences eye. The other image is meduim sized and is at the top right corner of the page, this image has lots pf bright colours in used to get the audiences eye. By using these images when the audience opens the contents page they can see what the magazine is about, without reading lots of information. There is also a tube of some kind of product which is brightly coloured and stands out from the rest of the page. The images are labeled with numbers and therre is a row of numbers down the side of the page and next to the numbers are some sellines and explanations for the images. All these images link together through college and all form to be a main image.
The colour scheme of this page is made up of different shades of blue, white yellow, orange and a bit of red. By making the background white it makes the colour and the images on the page stand out more which makes the contents page more interesting. There are a range of different shades of blue/green colours which adds brightness. Also by adding splashes of bright orange and yellow makes the page seem more fun and adds interest to the page as the background is white and needs colour to catch the audiences eye. 'Welcome' is highlighted bright yellow which automatically catches the audiences eye and makes them feel welcome and directed to personally. The bits of red in the page adds a bit of warmth and links in well with one of the images.
The font on this page is all the same, block and bold which makes it clear to read. The size of the masthead is a lot bigger than any of the other writing on the page which stands out automatically and may suggesat that it is the most important thing on the page. Then the size of the headlines are smaller than the masthead but slightly bigger than the sellines which shows they're of next importance than the smaller headlines for individual sellines. Finally the sellines are the smallest font and aren't in bold which doesn't make them as easy to read, they are less out of focus because that way it doesn't over power the page with writing which may put the audience off.

college front cover magazine write up 3

The main image on this magazine cover is of a man looking directly at the audience which adds a sense of intimacy. The man looks comfortable with his hands in his pocket and a slight smile on his face this gives the cover a laid back feeling, bue he also has a serious look on his face which adds a serious sense to the cover. the image takes up the whole of the page and goes under the sell lines but over the masthead which shows that the creator of the magazine is confident that the audience will be able to read what the masthead says without having to see the exact letters fully. This man is also coloured which shows that the college is multi-cultural, this also adds a serious and sensible feeling to the cover.
The masthead i straight forward and tells you straight away what the magazine is about and is quick and easy to uderstand, which works well for the target audience. It automatically catches the audiences eye as it is quite big and brightly coloured.  This masthead is in big block letters that are easy to understand and read. It also links in with some of the other colours on the page.
The colours of the image is black and white but then the colour of sell lines are very bright a there is a range of different colours such as red, orange, blue, black and yellow which is a bit mixed match but by repeating some of the colours gives the cover a colour theme. By making the image black and white and the sell lines and other information in bright colours doesn't lett the audience concentrate to long on the image as the bright colours draw the audiences eye to the sell lines.
There is a slogan that says 'lifestyle' under the masthead. But it isn't eye catching as it sin't brightly coloured as the rest of the page but it is uder the masthead which is the first thing you read which brings the audiences eye down to the slogan.
Tyhere is a small skyline at the top of the page which a little hard to read and isn't very eye catching but it does have a bright colour which catches the audiences eye a little.
There are a few sell lines on either side of the page in lots of different colours, sizes, blodness and fonts which automatically catches the audiences eye. There are also a couple of small images in the sell lines of things that may be of interest to the target audience which also adds interest to the cover.
The layout of this cover is simple and easy but also eye catching and interesting, as the is an image in the middle which takes up the whole page and sell lines either side a masthead at the top of the page and a skyline above that. By using this layout it doesnt over power the page with information and put the audience off.

The main image on this magazine cover is of a coloured man standing leaning slightly to the left this shows that the college is multi-cultural, he is looking directly at the audience smiling which gives a sense of happiness, he is also holding some books about law and society which gives the cover a sense of sophistication. He looks quite confident in his own clothes and standing comfortably, and he looks in his late teens or early 20's which makes the audience feel connected with him. His head covers part of the masthead which shows the creator of the magazine is confident that the audience will be able to read the masthead which gives the cover a laid back feel which some of the audience may be able to connect with.
The masthead automatically catches the audiences eye as it is quite big and brightly coloured. It is very straight forward and tells you straight away what the magazine is about which could be a positive thing as the audience this magazine is aimed at teenagers and people in college and they might want to read lots of information and want it quick and easy to understand. This masthead is in big block letters that are easy to understand and read. The colour of the masthead links in with some of the colours of other writing, which adds to the colour scheme of the cover.
The colour scheme on this cover is quite dark and then has bright striking colours such as white and bright green against a dark background, there is also a bit of bright pink in an information bubble. The choices of colour go together well and catches the audiences eye at the same time. The colour of the masthead and some of the information is very bright and stands out on a dark background. Also the masthead ans some of the sell lines are the same colour which may suggest that some of the sell lines and the masthead are of the same importance although the masthead is bigger which shows that it is more important. The colour of the man's clothes match in with the colour scheme as he is wearing white and black and therefore fits in well but doesn't really stand out against the background although the books he is holding have bright colours on which catches the audiences eye, they also stand out against the dark colour of his jacket.
There is a slogan that says 'lifestyle' under the masthead in white writing which stands out agaisnt ther dark background. The size of the slogan is fairly big but isn't in bold writing so doesn't stand out as much. By putting the slogan at the the end of the masthead it draws the audiences eye onto it, and it also gives a hint about what the magazine is about.
There is also a skyline at the top of the page which is in very small writing and is in white and a bit of yellow. It isn't very clear what it says and isn't in blod writing so doesn't really catch the audiences eye.
There's a few sell lines on either side of the page that are a range of white and green. The sell lines are a bit mixed matched as there are lots of different sizes of font and different boldness and thickness and there are also a few similar fonts but this adds to the interest of the cover. The sell lines aren't really formal or detailed which may suggest that this magazine is aimed at people who want quick stright to the point information and also students that aren't really sophisticated.
The reader is directed to by the the man making eye contact with the audience which adds intimacy. Also the reader is directed to when the word 'we' is used which also adds intimacy to the cover.
The layout of this cover is quite simple but organised and fairly orderly and effective as the main image is in the centre of the page with the mathead above it and the sell lines on eith sider of the page and the barcode in the bottom left corner and also a skyline at the top of the page and a slogan under the masthead which makes this cover easy and quick to undersatand which may attract the target audience. Also on this cover there is a brightly coloured puff buuble which exclaims about other content this also shouts out to the audience and adds something different to the cover.

college front cover magazine write up 1

research, magazine cover 1
The main image on the front of this magazine cover is a medium shot of a student, who looks quite confident, smiling and is looking directly at the camera which makes the audience feel that they are being looked at directly and adds intimacy, also because the student is smiling it makes it look like college is fun and she is happy and by dressing in shorts and a top it shows the audience that students are comfortable at college. The image slightly overlaps the masthead which shows that the people who created the magazine are confident that the audience will be able to understand what the masthead says. The main image takes up most of the page, but in the background is a blurred image of some land with some trees on, the background isn't too blurred so you can still make out what certain objects are. This shows that the main focus point of the magazine is the student, which draws more students to read the magazine.
The masthead is automatically the eye point of the magazine cover as it is quite big and bright red. The colour of the masthead links in with the colour of the students top, which gives the magazine cover a colour scheme, but the masthead is a different colour the the other information which shows that the masthead is the main focus point of the cover and is more important than the rest of the information on the cover as it is a brighter colour and is much bigger. The title 'college' automatically informs the audience that the magazine is about college and just by looking at the masthead we know what audience this magazine is aimed at.
The colour scheme on this magazine cover is mainly black, red and blue. these colours go quite well together and present a good colourful cover. All the colours on this cover link together well and the red and blue colours of the writing link with the colour of the students top and shorts so everything links in well. The brightness of the red used for the masthead and the blue used for smaller writing is very eye catching and and automatically draws the audience in and stands out well on the background and all the colours compliment each other well which also draws the audience in as it is a presentable cover. the black colours used in writing doesn't stand out as much as the other colours but it sticks out on the background and gives the cover a sense of sophistication and formalises it which might appeal to some students, the colour black also goes well with the other colours on the cover, the blue, red and the green colour of the background. There are also splashes of white which adds brightness to the cover.
The layout of this magazine cover is well layed out and is very neat and tidy, it also is very simple and isn't covered with writing and information which may put a lot of students off as they might not want to read a lot on the front of a magazine. By making the front of the cover simple, neat and tidy and the writing straight and symmetrical and in line with each other draws the audience in as the cover is very fresh and straight to the point. On this cover there are no arrows, shapes text boxes, text in different angles or puffs on the page which shows that the cover is not overcrowded and gives the cover sense of sophistication which may appeal to college students and their parents, this could also show that the college is sophisticated and strict on learning which is good for education but also fun and comfortable with the bright colours and smiling student in their own colthes. But some of the information that is on the cover is quite negative but it may draw the audience in because they may want to read the gossip inside.
On this cover there are 5 sell lines which are evenly laid out and simple but straight the the point. The sell lines don't give out lots of informatin to make the audience curious and wanting to se the gossip. These sell lines aren't really aimed at a sophisticated audince it is aimed at an adience that is more talkative and interested in the latest gossip. These sell lines may out off the more older, mature and sophisticated audience and it also may put off students parents as it shows the negative side to college with people gossiping and doing bad things.

brief information about me.

My name is Zara Clements and I am studying Media, Art and Photography at Bramcote Hills Sixth Form College.
I have made this blog to use to upload my media AS course work. My first task is a preliminary exercise, to produce a front page of a new college/school magazine using desktop publishing and a image manipulation program. In this I need to include a photo of a student in a medium to close-up shot, plus some appropriately laid-out text and masthead. In my main task I need to use a DTP program and a image manipulation program to produce the front page, contents and double page spread of a new music magazine.
